ARIZONA TIPS
We are very particular about what we eat. We are conspiracy theorists, meaning we believe the government is putting fluoride in our water for dubious reasons at best, we think genetically modified veggies and grains are causing massive problems in both health and the environment, and we are largely opposed to factory farming of animals which requires tons of hormones and antibiotics to keep fattened up weak cubicle animals just this side of ill. This is not a rant or a Future Road Maps manifesto, just something we see as common sense. I, (Matt) happen to be largely vegetarian unless I’m in Central America or New Zealand, Neil is largely vegetarian and we just want what humans have had for thousands of years, milk, and eggs, and water, and vegetables that come from the Earth in a natural and unprocessed way, and clean drinking water without chlorine and fluoride etc. With this in mind, we love finding great local restaurants who don’t GMO fruit and veggies, but from their local organic farmers. With this in mind, here are some like minded restaurants:
- SEDONA AZ.
For breakfast only, check out El Portal Bed and Breakfast, you can stay the night or just show up for breakfast. This is probably the best breakfast we have ever had. All local and organic meats and veggies, and just flat out amazing architecture and design. If you’re not on a budget, stay here.
97 Portal Lane, Sedona, Arizona (800) 313-0017
Also in Sedona, The ChocolaTree
This place is Raw and Vegan, that said, they have really hearty portions, and even if you are a meat eater, it is solid enough to give you a good healthy lift on the road. The raw veggie burger was probably the best I’ve had. They also make their own chocolates on site, and holy crap. Down side, your surrounded by every single cliche of health, new age and wacky fringe religions you have ever seen. Lots of bad new age art, but what do you expect, it’s Sedona.
ChocolaTree 1595 West Hwy 89A
Sedona, AZ 86336

Lastly, for Sedona, please do yourself a favor and visit Elote Cafe. This place has some of the best southwest style Mexican food ever, you will have to wait, people start lining up at 5pm to get a table, but they have great margaritas and a fantastic outdoor waiting areas with views of the canyons . 771 HWY 179 Sedona, AZ 86336 (928) 203-0105
- PHOENIX
D’Lish is our first choice for Phoenix breakfast or lunch. They are not vegetarian but are vegan and veggie friendly. Meats and Veggies are local and organic. The Breakfast buzz smoothie is out of hand, chocolate, peanut butter, almond milk, espresso, who knows what else but damn! They are the FRM restaurant of the month on account of giving us free smoothies to keep us solid on the road.
2613 N Scottsdale Rd
Scottsdale, AZ 85257

Also, for dinner, we found Gallo Blanco at the Clarendon Hotel to be very much to our liking, great Mexican food with a twist. This is taken straight from their website: Gallo Blanco Cafe is a locally owned and operated restaurant where the food is cooked from scratch daily, and we strive to utilize local ingredients and partner with local farmers and distributors.

- JEROME
Belgian Jenny’s Bordello Pizzeria. Tom is the chef here, and they make great fresh Italian food, and sell Belgian beers. What else could you want. One of the best things about this place, is Tom is part of every historical preservation group in Jerome, and if he’s not busy, and you have a second, he will spin yarns of the towns interesting past.

- COTTONWOOD
And lastly, should you ever find yourself broken down in Cottonwood Az. You will find amongst the Chevy and Dodge trucks, La Belle Cafe. It’s open for breakfast and lunch, a nice stop on the way to Jerome, which is also pretty fresh if you have never been. Veggie and meat friendly, local and organic.
